On Oct 24th at 2pm EST, Ed Green will be discussing what are some of the first steps all serious authors need to be doing when dealing with Social Media and Google.
On Oct 24th at 2pm Eastern, Global Selling Author E.A. Green/ The Greenman with 10 books associated with his literary repertoire will be speaking at the Virtual Writers Retreat hosted by Breaking Rules Publishing.
So, You’ve written a book.
When it come’s to finishing that first book, many of us think that we have successfully finished the race and are ready to kick back and watch the money roll in. If Only that was the case.
The truth is, You’ve only made it around that First bend.
Now comes the Real competition.
You might have started the race in the lead; but once that book is finished, Millions of other competitors have now joined in a marathon that will last for the remainder of your career. And their all seeking the same thing you are.
That golden ring to the stars, fame and fortune.
Now I personally have no agent, “accept for myself,” to represent me. I am also the epitome of the broke and starving artist. So having a publicist to represent me is way beyond my financial capabilities right now.
I assume that this is the case for many of us struggling Authors. So, Don’t Take Your Social Media Responsibilities Lightly!
I can not Stress this IMPORTANT avenue of FREE publicity more.
THIS IS A MUST: IF YOU WISH FOR ANY CHANCE AT SUCCESS.
The Main Objective Every Author Must Do is Claim Your Google Page. This Monumental Task is going to take patience and perseverance. The reason I say this is because your are going to need to expose yourself to social media and the public.
Google requires proof that you are who you say you are.
Not only will you need a picture of yourself holding your personal ID, but they also require links to your Social Media Pages. When dealing with this aspect, be sure to take your time because just one mistake and you will Definitely be denied.
Personally; it took me 3 to 5 tries and about a month waiting on their response before I Finally got it right.
Now comes the fun part.
Absolutely Making Time to keep up with this IMPORTANT ASPECT of your career.
Once I claimed my Google Knowledge Panel, the next thing to do was update my Google profile with all the information about myself. You will have full control over making sure which parts of that personal and private information gets shared with the public.
It is here where you will now need to attach every Social Media link that you can.
By doing this; when Family, Friends and Fans search for you, they will be given access to you, your books, Sellers and that part of your life that your willing to share with those interested in you and your Literary Accomplishments.
Here are a few Social sights that I Highly Recommend that you Immediately Take advantage of.
Your Google Profile and Knowledge Panel. Amazon and Goodreads Profiles are A Must Too and are automatically attached and everything you post on Goodreads, “Including Your Blog,” will be immediately posted on Amazon, The Internet and any sites that can be accessed from Goodreads.
Those include Facebook and Twitter. Two Other Social Media outlets that are of Great Importance also.
Personally, I have a Profile at all of those and a few other media sites too. AllAuthor, Linkedin, Instagram and Tumblr are a few others that I also take Full Advantage of. I’ve even begun to make videos and post them on my You Tube sight.
That, “Put Your Physical Personification,” aspect on show was a biggie for me, do to having issues about my personal appearance. I was one of those kids who were bullied and set apart from all others do to my weight and weirdness.
But if you want success, that part of being a much sought-after writer is a must and half to these days.
What’s going to happen now that you’ve accomplished this daunting task?
When someone searches out your name; instead of hoping that you somehow show up, they will now be presented with Five, Ten or more options to find you and your Literary works.
That’s also where your blog at Goodreads, “A Must Do,” becomes Immensely important.
This is not only where you share and publicize yourself and your books, but this is were it is of UTMOST IMPORTANCE to attach every link that is associated with your book sales, their cover pics, You and Your Social Media Pages.
It is UP TO YOU to flood the internet with every last drop of your blood, sweat and tears associated with Your Books, Yourself, Company’s your associated with, Seller Locations, Literary articles and the magazines presenting them, Any and All Interviews, Book Signings and Public Appearances.
I’ve been told that an agent would take care of these things for me, but not only am I an On Hands kind of person, but I don’t have the spare time to follow behind someone constantly having to audit and make sure that they are actually interested and investing in me more than I already am.
But, if you feel the need to take that rout for yourself; you More than have my support.
This is your walk, and No One knows more about what you need than you do.
Currently, I have only been on the literary chess board for almost 2 years now and my efforts are starting to show fruit and pay off in a big way. I have my first Live interview with Chat and Spin in the United Kingdom, “with a possible audience of 1 Million Listeners,” Plus Author’s Voice Gazette is also doing a Featured Author commentary on me also.
Hopefully, “if your reading this piece,” this will be my Third article that is also giving me the opportunity to introduce myself and my writing perspectives to other writers and future fans.
A successful writing career requires an Author to take Full Advantage of All Opportunities that help expose themselves to the public. So, push down those doubts and fears and realize that you’ve already waded into the water, it’s the deep end of the pool that you must accomplish and now master.
Accepting, dealing with, and overcoming public opinion will be some of the next hurdles you will need to leap.
Now that you have your Social Media Profiles up and running; they must not only be maintained and updated so that you seem fresh and interesting, but you must also reach out and socialize with your audience.
This Gladiator Arena can make or break a person and their hard work, Literally Over Night.
One off hand remark to a nasty response might not go over as well as it sounded in your head. So, think long and hard about what you might or might not say if you feel the need to respond.
I’m all for constructive criticism: but if your just one of those nasty personifications who’s only mission is to troll the internet because you feel the need to seek out and destroy, an Author always has access to that Wonderful Block Button that most sights have.
To keep oneself out of an unnecessary altercation, I Highly Recommend Using This Tool.
I find that being Overly Political on your media that is associated with what your using to promote your hopefully Successful Career, can be more than just a rusty nail in your coffin too. It can also be the Death Blow to any and all possibilities of you ever standing a chance at reaching those shining stars.
AND FOR GOD’S SAKES, “unless it’s associated with your literary works,” I do not feel it is necessary to expose the public, “and your younger followers,” to those sexual aspects of a person’s personal and private life.
Your kinks, sexual desires and family squabbles do not need to be publicly shared on Social media. We all know that such antics can, “AND HAS,” Literaly Destroyed Families, Careers, Fame and Fortune.
If that kind of an itch is scratching to be announced, can I suggest writing a book instead.
I personally think that such drama would be better received as an awesome story than it would have been being presented as a personal aspect into someone’s unchecked character. Private matters such as that should never be shared with the public in the first place.
People have been known to react and condemn others, “myself included at times,” before all the facts and figures have come out.
But, that is my personal perspective and please don’t read more into it than what it actually is.
It’s just an opinion.
As I continue to walk this unfamiliar path of biographical marksmanship, “a trek that is loaded with many traps and pitfalls,” my social media pages have also introduced me to many Wonderful and Supportive people and Unexpected Opportunities too.
Maybe, “after you’ve laid the foundation for your future,” there will come a day that our paths might cross, and I’ll get to revel in your success and delight in the Great Possibilities that now lay before you.
Until that day; Believe In Yourself, Take One Step At A Time, Stay Focused, Finish What You Start and ALWAYS Write, Write, Wright.
After purchase a Zoom link will be sent to your email address - thank you! We look forward to seeing you at the Breaking Rules Publishing Retreat.
