Submission Guidelines for, The Scribe, Someday, Horror or Triangle Writers Magazines:
Breaking Rules Publishing does not publish previously published works.
- All short stories and poems for ALL of the Magazines must be submitted as an attachment in "Word" form and emailed to – pattymccarthy@breakingrulespublishing.com.
- Your subject line should include which magazine you are submitting to, as well as indicating whether it is poetry or a short story.
- Your edited entry must be original, in English, and not accepted by any other publisher at the time of submission. Simultaneous submissions are accepted; however, we ask that you contact us if it’s accepted elsewhere.
- The author will hold the copyright and sign a contract allowing BRP to publish their work.
Previously published works/books - Breaking Rules Publishing will not republish previously published works in our magazines. We will however be happy to offer you an authors advertisement/promo - we will ask you to purchase an authors promo package for $50 - you will receive (your cover - authors photo - blurb - website and social media sites - we will also post a portion of your story for promotional purposes.) No payment will be made for previously published works. We will also require a release from you and the publisher of the work.
All submissions must -
Be sent in a "Word Doc" - 8.5 x 11 format - a clean, edited story with the authors name and title should be at the top of the page - please, no special margins - your story should be indented properly - single spaced - in a 12 font - no double spaces between paragraphs - and no headers or footers. Writers should also consider submitting a image that relates to their story. One that will bring attention to themselves and their story. All submissions must be submitted by the 10th of the month with an exact word count.
Also - your contact information should in the body of your email.
Work that is sent incorrectly will be sent back. We sincerely appreciate your interest in Breaking Rules Publishing but also don't want to add additional work for our formatting team.
Editing: By submitting you agree to allow Breaking Rules Publishing to provide a light edit, spell check, formatting, appropriate grammar, to all stories published.
Short stories should be no more than 5500 words, excluding title. Payment is $.02 per word up to 5500 words per accepted published story. Accepted stories beyond the word count will only be paid for the 5500 words.
Poetry should be no more than 300 words, excluding title. Payment is $10 per accepted published piece.
- If your piece is not selected for the current issue - we may ask that you either edit and rework your piece or allow us to hold it for the next issue.
Articles - starting with the April issues - all articles will be paid .02 per word up to 1000 words. Feel free to go over or under - unfortunately the max number of words. As the magazines increase in volume - so will the amount of pay per word.
Important Note - Each piece submitted must fit the theme and focus of the magazine and must be submitted by the 1st of each month. Submissions that do not fit the guidelines will be returned for the author to mark corrections.
Someday is an all genre - all art form magazine.
The Scribe is an all genre magazine.
Horror is a magazine focused on the genres of horror/paranormal/thriller.
Triangle Writers is focused on LGBT writers or stories and poetry in the LGBT genre.
(It is not required that you are LGBT)
Privacy Policy: Breaking Rules Publishing collects personal information for the purpose of communication with the author as well as marketing. All information submitted is kept in confidence, used solely for notification purposes, and shall not be made public. Breaking Rules Publishing does not lease, sell, or share personal information collected.
For purposes of privacy, if you are selected for publication, you will only be identified by your first and last name. Any other personal information will not be used. For example, you would appear in Breaking Rules Publishing magazine - The Scribe as John Doe. If you need confirmation of publication write us at info@breakingrulespublishing.com and we can prepare a letter for you..
Payment for stories placed in the BRP magazines will begin on the 30-31st of the following month. Unfortunately at this time we are not able to offer a contributors copy. As the magazines grow this policy will change. BRP is not responsible for any fees on your side of the PayPal payment.
Note - You will be required to offer a valid ID - your cellphone as well as file a W-9. We will also ask to have a telephone conversation to get to know you and your writing goals..
